Running on the Internet

by ilco

If you’re reading this, it’s probably safe to say that you’re an avid runner and a frequent Internet user. I’ll go one step further to put the two together – and assume you browse running related websites regularly. Much like you, I enjoy reading the latest running-related news and stories online . This is why I’ve recently published a list of 10 Sites Every Runner Should Visit on iRunnerBlog to share some of my favorite sites.

Keep in mind that the list above is not a condensed version of the entire knowledge base of running. In fact, it’s merely a tiny fraction of what’s on the web – many websites, which I visit frequently, are not included. The reason: I consider the the listed sites as good starting points because they are constantly updated with fresh and informative content – except the “training log” websites.

Speaking of training logs, I’d like to point out that although RunningAHEAD is my personal favorite, there are several others that are worth a look. For an in-dept analysis, you can check out my Comparison of Online Training Log. Below you will find links, in no particular order, to additional websites that I stop by from time to time. (Please note that there is no affiliation between these sites and myself.)

  • Runblogger: “Thoughts and tips on running and living an active life”. Its author, Pete Larson, regularly updates this blog with findings and studies on natural running and injury prevention.
  • Geeks in Running Shoes: Podcast of interviews with athletes and other running authorities.
  • RunAddicts: Professional running blog with great articles on topics of Start Running, Health + Nutrition, Stories, and Training Tips.
  • Running Shoes Guru: As the name implies – this is a running shoes review site.
  • BirthdayShoes: “The fan site for Vibram FiveFingers toe shoes aka barefoot shoes”.
  • ZERO DROP: A blog dedicated to shoes with a zero heel-to-toe height differential.
  • McMillan Running: Greg McMillan’s famous pace calculator is a great reference for figuring out training pace.
  • Hal Higdon: Training programs for runners of all levels and running of all distances.
  • MarathonGuide.com: An extensive online directory to every marathon in the world (both USA and international).
  • Running Warehouse: This is where I shop most of my gear. It has free 2-day shipping on everything. Use coupon codes FB15D or runblog10 for additional discount.
  • Road Runner Sports: Another online running shop I shop once in a while. Some items are much cheaper than they are on Running Warehouse – but you need to sign up for their VIP program (annual).
  • Joe’s New Balance Outlet: A great place to buy discounted New Balance products.

Of course there are other resourceful running websites and blogs out there. What else do you think would make an excellent addition to my lists? Are there running-related forums, video channels, or other web-based media outlets that you visit often? What do you look for when you visit these sites? Please leave a comment below and don’t forget to share this article.
